NewsDelighted to be providing interpreting services to Turkish MPs Study Visit.A group of Turkish Members of Parliament began a study visit to London on Monday 20 October 2008 and I am delighted to be providing interpreting services to them. The group are learning from the UK’s experiences and developments in the use of Mediation within the UK Justice system. Their work will help steer the Turkish Government’s own reforms on mediation and its Justice system. The study programme was developed in partnership with the British Embassy in Ankara and includes, amongst other events, meetings at the House of Lords with former Chief Justice, Lord Woolfe of Barnes; the Ministry of Justice; The Royal Courts of Justice, and ACAS. Mediation is an effective way of resolving disputes without the need to go to court. It involves using an independent third party - a mediator - who helps both sides to come to an agreement The Ministry of Justice wants that Courts should be the last resort for people involved in civil or family disputes. Mediation is an alternative to litigation and can be cheaper, quicker and less stressful. It is a voluntary process where a neutral third party helps both sides to agree on the outcome of their dispute. I am delighted and honoured to be able to provide interpreting services to such a prominent and distinguished study group. I have worked in legal settings for a number of years now and this has given me considerable experience of law terminology that has been valuable to me in this programme and which gave the organisers the confidence to allow me to work with the group on this. Knowing the importance the Turkish Government places on its reforms, I am particularly thrilled to be given such a role that really gives recognition to my own professional skills. I also felt very privileged to provide the interpreting for the former Lord Chief Justice, The Right Honorable the Lord Woolf of Barnes' presentation to the group at the House of Lords, and was very happy to hear his very complementary words about my own work. The study tour concludes on Friday 24 October.
